On Monday, before launching into the first of his “City on Stage” lectures for our Writing New York course, Bryan offered an admonishment to the class. He was annoyed that one of our students seemed to think that my lecture on Irving last week was a good time to do some online shopping — for handbags. (Honey, you could have waited until Bryan’s lecture on Cora Mowatt’s play Fashion this morning!)
So he said: you all heard President Obama’s quote, “Brothers should pull up their pants.” Well, he went on, the media didn’t get the rest of the quote: “Sisters should stop facebooking in lecture.”
